I have been using a binocular for scanning the night sky for several decades now, and I own several of various types and sizes. The 10 X 50 size is an excellent specification for Astronomy, as many authors have stated, but there are great variations between the least and most expensive. The Olympus "Trooper" model, although priced on the lower end, nonetheless shows stars as points over most of the field, and is very light efficient. The manufacturer has done a good job of grinding quality lenses, and full size prisms. The prisms use BK-7 rather than the slightly more desirable BaK-4 glass, but in practice there is really no perceivable difference. The optics are not "fully MULTI coated", but they are fully coated, and reach as far into space as a comparable FMC binocular in my inventory. At $150 I think this would still be a fair value, but at what they normally sell for - well under $100 - they are an exceptional value. Needless to say, if they are useful for Astronomy they will be just as capable for birding or general nature and sightseeing use. If you do not have a binocular in this size range, take a close look at this one, as you can not go wrong at this low price.
